Somerset House, Bath A detached Georgian house within the Lansdown Conservation Area overlooking Bath and near Victoria Park which was built at the end of the eighteenth century to a design by John Eveleigh. It is thought that the house was originally constructed as the end piece of an intended terrace or crescent. However the crescent was never built. The house then remained for approximately two hundred years as an unresolved and unbalanced oddity. The scheme involved extending to the side of the house to provide a new hall in a rigorous classical manner appropriate to the exact period of its original construction and to resolve the unfinished nature of the building. |
